2019-2020 Youth Birding Contests Winners

Best Bird Photo Youth Contest Winners

First Prize winner is Jefferson Shank, 14, for his photo of a Black and White Warbler, which was taken along the Stillhouse Hollow Road, Chambersburg, PA taken April 25, 2020.  He used a Canon Power Shot G3X to take his photo. He is the son of Edwin and Dawn Shank of Chambersburg.   He was awarded a $50 prize check.

Second Prize winner is Nick Putt, 10, for his photo of a Gray Catbird (Juvenile), taken along Briar Lane, Chambersburg, PA on June 14, 2020.  He used a Sony Cyber shot DSC-H1 to take his photo.  He is the son of Terry and Marina Putt, Chambersburg.  He was awarded a $35 prize check.

Third Prize winner is Gabe Putt, 14, for his photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch, taken in his backyard on Briar Lane, Chambersburg, PA on Sept. 18, 2020. He used a Lumix DC-FZ80 camera to take his photo.  He is the son of Terry and Marina Putt of Chambersburg, PA.  He was awarded a $25 prize check.

Longest Birding List Youth Contest Winners

First Prize winner is Jefferson Shank, 14, for having seen a total of 180 different species. He saw most of his birds locally, participating in the Christmas Bird Count, a few at Middle Creek in Lancaster County, and a few at the beach in New Jersey. He was awarded a $50 prize check.  He began his list Dec.14, 2019 and finished Sept. 13, 2020.

Second Prize winner is Cash Monn, 14, for having seen a total of 72 different species. He is the son of Abram and Anya Monn, Greencastle, PA.  He was awarded a $35 prize check.  He started his list March 7, 2020 and finished Sept. 27, 2020. He saw birds locally in Greencastle and at the beach. 

Third Prize winner is Taylor Bricker, 11, for having seen a total of 43 different species.  He was awarded a $25 prize check.  He began his list Nov. 18, 2019 and finished Aug. 6, 2020.  He saw local birds along Jacks Mill Road and in Gettysburg, PA.
