Blackwater NWR

Feb 17 – Feb 19 all-day

Destination:Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, near Cambridge, Maryland.
Auto tour for WATERFOWL.
Friday – Sunday, 17 February – 19 February, 2023. Leave from Martins’ home at 1:00 PM Friday.
Make your own motel arrangements.
Bring scopes, binoculars, and lunch.

Middle Creek WMA for Waterfowl

Destination: Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Lancaster County.
Auto tour for migrants. Hoping for large numbers of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans; also many ducks and other waterfowl.
Bring scopes, binoculars, and lunch.
Be prepared to take the PA Turnpike.
Meeting place: Park & Ride, Scotland, Exit 20, I-81 northbound

American Woodcock

Field Trip: To see and hear the mating rituals of AMERICAN WOODCOCKS.
Drive to Heisey Road orchard.
Witness the annual mating flight of these woodland birds.
Bring flashlight.
Be prepared for tall, wet grass.
Meeting place: Park & Ride, Scotland, Exit 20, I-81 northbound. Meet at the Park & Ride at 5:45 PM , or go directly to Heisey Road orchard on your own and be there by 6:00 PM
Destination: Heisey Road orchard. Note: birders are welcome, despite the Posted signs.

Apr 15 CANCELLED – Norlo Garden Work Day

The work day scheduled for 15 April is CANCELLED due to the weather forecast.
From Josh Donaldson – At this point the forecast is for thunderstorms starting early tomorrow morning and most of the morning so we might as well cancel it already. We’ll take the rain!If the storms happen to clear in the afternoon I’ll probably go out to work, we’ll see. Anyone with questions about what they can work on I can meet there some other time next week just get in touch. Otherwise, as usual, everyone is welcome to work at their convenience (anytime) or come to the next work party!
Serviceberry, Redbud, and Ragwort are all in bloom at the garden, other plants are just beginning to pop through the surface.
